Als eens in Eden

1Als eens in Eden, werd het weer morgen,
zongen ook heden, vogels hun lied.
Dank voor dat zingen, dank voor de morgen,
voor alle dingen, die U ons biedt.

2U toont Uw trouw, Heer', ook in de regen.
Zo viel de dauw neer, eenmaal voor 't eerst.
Dank voor het schone, dat ons de aarde
steeds weer zal tonen, waar U passeert.

3Aan God behoorden, morgen en zonlicht:
vrucht van Zijn woorden, eens in de hof.
Dank iedre morgen, jubel van vreugde,
breng voor Zijn zorgen, Hem steeds uw lof!

4Morning has broken, like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing, fresh from the Word!

5Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from Heaven,
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness, of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness, where his feet pass.

6Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,
Born of the one light, Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God’s re-creation, of the new day!
